Government offices in the city may not be lit up this Independence Day keeping in mind the power shortage in the state. It is an effort by the government to ward off criticism of the pomp and gaiety associated with the event at a time when people in...

Oh its a sham... with 5 to 12 hours power cuts in various places across Maharaaashtra, these guys are scared they may loose votes.
Just the other day read an article on how much electricity these political bigwigs consume each year. The figures are mind- boggling... They are just opportunistic rascals.

Absolutely agree with you. Just today in paper it has came that the SC on Tuesday said ”In India, even God cannot help. He will be a silent spectator as He will also feel helpless”.
This was in connection to the state govt and central govt’s reluctance to take tough measures against bureaucrats unauthorized overstay in govt accommodation.
Such thick skinned and high headed they are... and they are showing off by not lighting up govt buildings.... its a shame on us all that we can’t do anything about it.... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr :)

There’s are many not-so-major actions that can be taken on a daily basis to leave lesser carbon foot prints. But the point is who will do it for environment? These vote-beggars do it for votes, power n seats only.

I absolutely agree with you. They can easily make an example by taking steps like switching off a/c’s but thats exactly the problem. They just want to make a ’show’ out of every possible opportunity and get mileage out of it... They are, like Deepa said, vote-baggers who are not really bothered about peoples or even country’s plight.

Putting of lights or a/cs one or two days in a year doesn’t prove anything. If they want to do something genuinely then they should cut down on energy consumption over a period....of a year and show annual difference. This may win them some eco-votes too :)

Yes, if people suffer due to lack of such basic thing like electricity, govt should do their bit and not just show a token jester... but can’t see our politicians or babu’s giving off their luxuries for people.

I don’t when we’ll have another freedom struggle to get rid of these bunch of greedy and myopic politicians.
You know, when I went to Mussorie I saw people painting rocks green! Why? The then PM Indira Gandhi was supposed to do an aerial survey.
They don’t even understand the issues...:)

”people painting rocks green! ” hmmmm......

I hope the next generation of politicians will know people are more aware of issues now and can see thru their stupid gimmicks. Thou there is still a large part of India who is ignorant and will not see thru their ploys, but the educated and urban Indians can make them be more accountable, whether its for their work or social responsibilities.
