I agree..Manish and I are quite thankful..Her’s a question..what age is normal for menopause or pre-menopause, or just medically diagnoseable Bitchiness? My wife has wondered, but docs haven’t checked her hormone levels..She thought it was triggered after her tubal ligation after the birth of our daughter..do you know if that’s possible? Trying to get some insight.

Hey Oscar, allow me to congratulate your wife for ’possessing’ such a caring and concerned partner :)
I am not qualified to give reliable answers to your doubts, but I can throw some light.....as much as i know.
There is no specific age to embark on the menopausal journey. generally it can happen from anytime once u hit 30. some women may not experience anything till 40 or even 50 yrs of age.
But now you know when your lady starts getting snappy and irritable, blame it on her hormones.
Btw, hormonal levels keep changing all thru a woman’s life. So anything can trigger of such changes...be it marriage, pregnancy, child birth, miscarriage, abortion, unusual flow....and lots more that only a good gynac can update on.

I think it’s got to be very difficult for women... I know my wife is very aggravated that even her woman doctor doesn’t seem to understand..I think sometimes being a doctor, the clinical side takes over, forgetting about the very real desperation on the patient side.

I a not surprised that you haven’t heard of such things. It belongs to women’s domain.

A woman’s domain? I don’t think there are certain domains?? It would be like saying woman have no idea about ED, viagra, or prostate cancer.

Okay Oscar, I take my words ”woman’s domain” back. But maybe some men are still ignorant about all this ups-downs of hormones and the havoc it creates for both the sexes. :)

Great link Deepa! But I am sure not every woman in that stage gets crabby and does it hold true for men too when they reach Andropause?

Hey Nishi thanks!
You are correct that not every woman gets irritable and touchy. But i have seen that be it menopausal or non-menopasal, women do undergo slight changed during those days. Many are blissfully ignorant about such symptoms and others are lucky to suffer from insignificant changes that go unnoticed.
Coming to men, I have seen middle aged men getting possessive or insecured in a relationship. Guess we can blame it to Andropause :)A doc friend of mine did say that a man too is a victim of hormonal changes but that happens at a much later stage in their lives.

The male ”andropause” does happen much later in life..It’s only natural..We can’t have our hormonal flux meltdown until after our wives..I think that system comes from a biological mankind ”insurance plan”.I think it helps keep life expectancy in que. The world would turn upside down if man and woman were both facing the issue at the same time..I shudder to think...poor children..poor society.

LOL....Oscar I admire your knack to bring humor into every topic.
”The world would turn upside down if man and woman were both facing the issue at the same time..I shudder to think....” am actually visualizing the scenario!

It is said everything happens for a reason..Imagine if with this issue were any different. They also say cavemen/women had a very similar life expectancy of about 44..Maybe evolution has played a big part in causing our ”pauses” to finally cycle differently..If it is true of such early deaths in the past, maybe their same timed hormonal fluxes caused them to cancel eachother out..leading to a very low life expectancy for both male and female.
