There is no need for an open story, the bishops statements clears the trend,it seems even he also enjoyed some times the same opportunity.”Bishop Daniel added: ”I have always respected the priest in question and I will continue to respect him. You cannot discount all the good a person has done in their life just because of one mistake.”

To err is human! Doesn’t that apply to all humans and the priest also belongs to this species.

It reminds me of the ”Scarlette Letter”. A priest having illegal affaires with a holy woman. Yes, to err is human. But why should it be commited at first? I mean it’s not something one is bound for, I mean something like a life/death question. Well, the priest should confess in front of God.

Hi Sasmita,
Only the priest can answer that why was this err committed in 1st place.
However such instances have come up in past too......religious heads, gurus n priests of other religions have also been a part of such non-priestly acts.
Wonder why they renounce the world to lead a life of priest if they cannot do justice to their role.

For every man who cheats, there is a woman cheating along with him (unless he is a gay)... so why talk only of the priest? The article does not say the priest forced that woman, so she was equally a part of the whole thing.
Sure, as a priest he is supposed to conduct in much better way and not like a sniffing dog, but isn’t the much married woman with 2 kids also at fault? Doesn’t she deserve any criticism?

The priest is more at fault as he has been sworn by church to stay away from such acts.
The woman is married and having a relationship outside marriage so she too is a culprit but then while exchanging vows with her husband, she must not have sworn (legally) to resist such temptations.
Don’t get me wrong that i am promoting relationships outside marriage Lol.....

In fact the priest is just answerable to God all mighty and the church, the woman is answerable to her husband, her kids + God and Church....bigger sin rite!

If a priest is preaching extra-marital sex then how can we expect our society to steer clear of such values.

The Chioggia (Near Venice) Bishop Daniel letting of the adventurous 53 year old priest who is otherwise a Bible specialist and giving him marching orders to another parish only reveals that we have not yet heard the last word on this developing story.

Yeah Ravinder, I too am wondering about what the final verdict is gonna be. Guilty or no-guilty? Will he be stripped off his powers of being a priest?

Deepa, whether the priest is defrocked or not can’t say.
But since he is reported to be an specialist on the Bible
and one of the foundations on which the religions stands is :—-
The 10 Commandments - God’s Revelation in the Old Testament
The 10 Commandments are found in the Bible’s Old Testament at Exodus, Chapter 20. They were given directly by God to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai after He had delivered them from slavery in Egypt:
”And God spoke all these words, saying: ’I am the LORD your God…
ONE: ’You shall have no other gods before Me.’
TWO: ’You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.’
THREE: ’You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.’
FOUR: ’Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.’
FIVE: ’Honor your father and your mother.’
SIX: ’You shall not murder.’
SEVEN: ’You shall not commit adultery.’
EIGHT: ’You shall not steal.’
NINE: ’You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.’
TEN: ’You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.’

Hey Ravinder, Thanks for enlightening us with all the ten commandments.
On a lighter note, did God know that humans will be attracted to everything from their neighbor’s house? Lol...the 10th commandment makes it so clear.

Deepa, God did warn at the very outset of creation what not to lust for.
But history records that we never learn.
Unfortunately the 53 year old priest from Chioggia conveniently has deleted the 7th and 10th Commandments from the sermons he preaches.
Let him settle down in the new Parish that he has been reprimanded to.
Its new hunting ground and six months down the line we will have another episode of the same story reveal itself.

All Religions have set of rules so people can live in a civilized society in a civilized manner. Unfortunately most people forget these rules once they are out of their respective places of worship (temple, church, masque etc.) But a priest or any holy person for that matter involved in a scandal is not only shameful but also harmful to society.

He can always say the lady needed help and it is his duty to help people.. or it is a part of some cleansing process, since he found the lady had a twisted side ... ;) but wot explainable excuse can she give? ... she was helping him to make her devoid of her sins? :P LOL
